How can you detoxify your body in a healthy manner, while losing weight?

Hi friends and family,

Get ready to do a family and friends group detox, starting March 1st, 2011.

My wife and I recently finished a three week detoxifying cleanse and want to share the goodness with our loved ones. The primary purpose was to help the body rid itself of toxins that build up and tend to overload our body, especially the liver. The nice side effect is that we both lost weight. Some people do these types of cleanses just to lose weight, but I wanted more of a clean slate for my liver. My mind has never been more clear and my body has never felt better. Aches and pains that were ailing me for years started to leave. My wife lost weight that beforehand was untouchable by her many attempts at diet and exercise.

The basic premise for detoxifying is to reduce/reverse the effects of the unhealthy, toxin-laden environment that we are immersed in.  Toxins have multiplied since the Industrial Age and have not  decreased. The increased toxicity that surrounds us can overload our functional capacity for disposing of the toxins on our own. If our liver is overloaded, we can tend to store the toxins in places like our fat instead of eliminating them. If we didn't have so many sources of toxins all around us and in us, we wouldn't need to do a detox. Increased toxicity comes from poor diets (processed food, nutrient-depleted soil, artificial additives), prescription drugs and things like tobacco and alcohol, air and water pollution, and bad digestion/absorption in our gut caused by food sensitivities. Reducing toxins will help prevent chronic inflammation and diseases. I am not saying this is a cure for things like cancer or anything so bold. But, if the body is given the building blocks, it will do its job of keeping itself healthy.

So I am inviting friends and family to start another cleanse with us starting March 1st, 2011. The cleanse will last 3 weeks, or 21 days. There is a simple diet (see below) that we will follow and there is a supplemental shake that we will take on a specific schedule that provides liver-detoxifying herbs, vitamins and minerals, and extra protein.  The shake can be used as a meal replacement, but it is mostly used as a meal supplement. The shake is called Clearvite from Apex Energetics (http://www.clearvite.info/index.htm). It is normally $120+ shipping per person for a three week supply (two cans) and I can get them for around $110. We will provide helpful tips and lessons learned when we did our first detox in January. Stay tuned for that.

The diet is mainly an anti-inflammatory, health-promoting diet that eliminates the types of foods that give most people problems, thus giving the body a chance to rid itself of toxins and lose weight. It consists mainly of fruits and vegetables, healthy protein (fish and chicken), healthy oils (olive oil, flaxseed, and grapeseed oil) and rice and legumes (beans and lentils).

The diet eliminates foods that can potentially cause allergies. This is why the diet does NOT allow gluten-containing grains (no wheat, oats, rye, barley), corn, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, or shellfish. Once the cleanse is complete, you can reintroduce these types of food back in to the diet slowly so that you can see how they affect your body.

I will provide more details about the diet and will also provide recipes and other things on the blog so you don't have to search far for what to make for your meals.

Join us if you want to detoxify and lose some weight. I think it will be fun to do it as a group so we can all support each other in the process and share ideas and recipes.
